Q&A

What led you to pursue a career in manufacturing?

My older brother was the first one in my family to get a college education. He was the one who showed me the world of manufacturing. What I liked was that you can see where the product you are working on will be used. Even now when I hang out with my brother we spend a lot of time talking about the cool things we are both doing at our jobs. He is developing software for the automotive industry so cars can be smarter. As for me working at TRUMPF, people want to hear what kinds of things our lasers can do!

What has your journey been like?

Manufacturing has many different possibilities. It’s not only working on the shop floor like most people would think. It’s everything around engineering, purchasing, HR, finance, sales. The opportunities are endless. Trying to figure out what works for me was challenging. I have worked in different departments through my career: production, quality, and customer service.

I know I like to work with people. I enjoy developing employees so they can also achieve their goals. Training fits perfect for me in that sense.

What have you learned about yourself?

Change is OK, and you can’t be afraid of making a decision because you can always change.

Do you have any advice for people interested in a career in manufacturing?

Try it! If something doesn’t work for you the first time, don’t give up. Manufacturing is a very rewarding job.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I read (The House of Yan is my current book), run (I’m still trying to run a marathon), and watch movies (the latest one was The Gentlemen).
